Pop princess Britney Spears returns to Axis at Planet Hollywood for New Year Eve’s Weekend shows starting Dec. 27, but the original plan was to begin the night before. So why the one-night delay?

Turns out the staging of the 2015 Miss Universe Pageant on Fox on Sunday is so ambitious that it wouldn’t have been fully broken down and moved out in time for the earlier date.

“Simply logistics,” I was told by Britney’s representative and Miss Universe producers. Britney plans a makeover of her “Piece of Me” resident show while Jennifer Lopez starts her residency, “All I Have,” on Jan. 20.

While on hiatus, Britney will redesign about 75 percent of her show with new dance routines and musical numbers. The choreography sessions have already started in Los Angeles. Britney ends her New Year’s run Jan. 3 and returns Valentine’s Day Weekend with the makeover.

Meantime, the Miss Universe preliminary competition gets underway at Axis today as the judges determine who will grab a spot in the Top 15 to be announced early in Sunday’s pageant.

The preliminary show will be followed by the National Costume Show where each contestant will wear an outfit of her choice that she believes best represents her country.

We’ll have a report with photos and videos right here at Vegas DeLuxe on Thursday.
