Taste of the NFL
The advertising slogan “This Bud’s for you” takes on new meaning Super Bowl 50 Sunday on Feb. 7 when Budweiser’s new Beer Park Las Vegas atop Chateau in Paris Las Vegas opens for the Big Game, and tickets will be $175 for open bar and buffet.
Instead of watching the action on the Strip below or the gushing skyward Fountains of Bellagio, sports fans will be glued to more than 40 HDTVs for the matchup in Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., south of San Francisco. Will it be the Carolina Panthers, New England Patriots, Arizona Cardinals or Denver Broncos?
NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal is one of the investors in the Strip’s first rooftop bar and grill and recently received an advance hard-hat tour to check on progress. Food items will be served buffet-style from custom-made, open-flame barbecue grills with beechwood chips presoaked in Budweiser.
My pal Bradley Martin of Eater Las Vegas reports that the 10,000-square-foot beer drinker’s paradise will serve 36 brews on tap along with hundreds of other options. This will be one place that will definitely not run dry during on Super Bowl Sunday.
Las Vegas will be well represented at the Super Bowl at the Saturday night 25th anniversary Taste of the NFL party at the legendary Cow Palace. Celebrity chefs from across the country represent each city with a football team in the party with a purpose to end hunger. Tickets start at $700.
Actor Jeff Bridges will serve as taste ambassador, and San Francisco’s Third Eye Blind, with frontman Stephan Jenkins, will entertain. Also attending: actress Alyssa Milano, Miss America Betty Cantwell, Larry the Cable Guy, singer Nick Lachey, TV food stars Adam Richman and Andrew Zimmern and our Las Vegas celebrity chef Buddy Valastro’s Carlos Bakery chefs with Michael Mina and Bobby Flay.
Our contributing photographer Tom Donoghue serves as official lensman for the event. I’ve contributed a Las Vegas package to be auctioned for me to host a Wolfgang Puck dinner here for the winners who will then visit Jennifer Romas’ “Sexxy” at Westgate Las Vegas where they will receive an autographed champagne magnum from me along with a voicemail recording of my welcome to their callers.
Incidentally, congratulations are in order to Michael Mina, who celebrates the first anniversary of his Bardot Brasserie at Aria tonight. Yes, its been 12 months since he began his latest dining invasion of fabulous French fare at Aria.
