A homeless man was critically injured when a car ran off the road and struck the tent where he was sleeping, according to Metro Police.
The incident was reported about 1:55 a.m. Sunday at Sandhill Road and Hawaii Avenue, police said.
The car was headed north on Sandhill when it ran off the road into the desert and hit the 63-year-old man in the makeshift tent, police said. He was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition, police said.
The driver and a passenger stopped briefly at a business just north of the crash site but left, police said. The car was later found abandoned nearby, police said.
The driver, a 20-year-old Utah man, was identified and located some hours later, police said. He was arrested on unspecified counts related to the incident, police said.
