Meth operation sparks explosion, fire, NLV officials say

Updated Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019 | 3:16 p.m.

A person making methamphetamine triggered an explosion and fire at an apartment building that injured three people, one of them critically, according to the North Las Vegas Fire Department.

Of those injured, two were taken to hospitals, and one person was in critical condition at University Medical Center, North Las Vegas Fire Department spokesman Nino Galloway said.

The investigation was ongoing, officials said.

More than 50 firefighters from North Las Vegas and Las Vegas responded to the incident about 8 a.m. today in the 3300 block of Decatur Boulevard, near Cheyenne Avenue, Galloway said.

The fire was contained to a first-floor apartment in an eight-unit building, Galloway said. Two buildings were evacuated as a precaution, he said.

The Southern Nevada chapter of the American Red Cross was helping residents displaced by the fire.
