Fire at Spring Valley apartments could displace 30 residents

More than 60 firefighters responded to an apartment building fire in the Spring Valley area Monday afternoon, which caused a partial roof collapse but didn't injure anyone, according to the Clark County Fire Department.

The blaze was reported about 3:30 p.m. in a second-story unit of the Gloria Park Villas, 3625 S. Decatur Blvd., near Spring Mountain Road, Fire Chief Greg Cassell said.

Crews spotted flames and smoke billowing from the apartment, Cassell said. The fire had spread to the attic and was beginning to extend to other apartments, and crews commenced a heavy attack, sending several firefighters inside, Cassell said.

At one point, the roof partially collapsed, "luckily not injuring any firefighters," Cassell said.

The fire was under control, but firefighters and investigators were expected to stick around for several hours, Cassell said. Las Vegas Fire & Rescue assisted, he added.

Up to 30 residents could be without a home for some time, Cassell said. The Southern Nevada chapter of the American Red Cross had been summoned.
