CARSON CITY — Nevada is marking Census Day on Wednesday with a livestream question-and-answer marathon featuring local, state and federal elected officials and community organization representatives stressing the importance of the every-10-years count of people living in the U.S.
The Facebook stream runs from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is being hosted by Silver State Voices and the Institute for a Progressive Nevada.
April 1 is the date used to reference where a person lives for the once-a-decade count that helps determine allocations of federal funding.
But Census Day 2020 has arrived with the nation nearly paralyzed by the spread of the new coronavirus.
The U.S. Census Bureau has suspended field operations until mid-April and pushed back the deadline for wrapping up the head count to mid-August.
Officials say Nevadans can be counted without leaving home by completing the Census questionnaire online, by telephone or by mail.
