Police: 2 killed in gunfire at apartment complex

Updated Wednesday, April 1, 2020 | 2:39 p.m.

After fatally shooting a man during a fight at an apartment complex, the gunman was killed by a witness he pointed a gun at late Tuesday, according to Metro Police.

The shooting was reported about 11:30 p.m. in the 900 block of Sierra Vista Drive, near Desert Inn Road and University Center Drive, police said.

Two men got into a fistfight in the courtyard of the apartment complex when one of them, Ronald Thompson, 28, pulled out a gun and shot the other, police said.

“Thompson then pointed his handgun at a witness who came out of his apartment during the exchange,” police said in a news release. “The witness, who was also armed, fired at Thompson, striking him.”

One of the gunshot victims — it wasn’t clear which one — died at the scene, and the other was declared dead at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, police said.

The witness was not arrested, and the Clark County District Attorney’s Office was going to review the case, police said.

Further details were not immediately available.
