School District reports computer ‘data security incident’

The Clark County School District notified parents today of a computer “data security incident,” but it wasn’t clear what, if any, information was compromised.

The notification comes near the end of the first week of distance education because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“CCSD wants to assure you that the privacy and security of information is one of our top priorities,” a message to parents said.

The district is working with local and federal authorities to assess the full impact of the incident and “will hold those responsible accountable,” the message said.

Distance education is continuing as scheduled, and there have been no reports of interruptions of service to computer learning platforms, the district said.

School Board Vice President Linda Cavazos said she hoped the issue would be addressed at the regular board meeting at 5 p.m. today.
