Las Vegas locals urged to audition for ‘Catch 21’ game show

Alfonso Ribeiro, right, and Witney Carson will host the Game Show Network’s “Catch 21,” which will film in Las Vegas later this year.

The Game Show Network is looking for Las Vegans interested in being participants on its blackjack-based show “Catch 21.”

Jane Livshin, a casting director for the show, said filming will take place in Las Vegas over a six-week period in May and June.

The game incorporates the rules of blackjack, but includes pop culture trivia questions, Livshin said. Three players, who each receive one card to start, compete per show with the chance to walk away with $25,000.

Contestants who make it to the show’s final round are guaranteed to leave with at least $1,000.

“We’re looking for Las Vegas locals or people who will be in Las Vegas during that time period,” Livshin said. “We want people with great personality from all walks of life who want to have some fun.”

Livshin said “hundreds” of people will likely be interviewed — those exchanges will take place remotely via Skype — but that more than 100 episodes will be recorded.

Casting officials are generally looking for men or women in their 20s and up, Livshin said, although all contestants must be 18 by May 1.

“It’s a fun game,” Livshin said. “People need to know the rules of blackjack — basically that the goal is to get to 21 before going over — but the trivia questions aren’t overly difficult. They’re not as difficult as the questions you’d see on 'Jeopardy!'.”

The game is hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro — perhaps best known for his role as Carlton Banks on the 1990s sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” — with Witney Carson serving as the dealer.

“For anyone who might consider auditioning, it’s not intimidating,” Livshin said. “It will be a fun experience. We’re encouraging people to apply ASAP.”

Those interested in being considered for an audition are asked to email a brief narrative of why they’d be a good fit for the show, along with a recent photo and links to social media accounts, to [email protected].
