Suspect arrested in fatal shooting of man outside Reno bank

RENO — Reno police have arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of a 78-year-old man in a parking lot outside a bank.

Police say 21-year-old Davion Simonton has been booked on suspicion of murder in Thursday’s killing of Douglas Morrin.

Detectives say the shooting was part of an apparent attempted robbery outside the Wells Fargo in south Reno. Witnesses saw a man flee the scene across McCarran Boulevard into a nearby neighborhood where Simonton later was arrested.

Morrin was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

Simonton was being held Friday without bail at the Washoe County Jail. It’s not clear if he has a lawyer or will be appointed one.
