After losing last week on a 2-point conversion in the final seconds, the Desert Pines football team went back to practice this week with a renewed sense of urgency.
It seemed to work — the Jaguars made quick work of Centennial, 62-0. It’s the same team that beat Desert Pines in the 2019 state semifinals.
“We had a great week of practice,” Desert Pines coach Tico Rodriguez said. “We refocused the kids and they came out ready to play.”
Isaiah Rubin had a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, Reginald Tiggs had an interception return for a score, and Javontae Barnes carried the ball 10 times for 110 yards and two touchdowns.
Quarterback Rjay Tagataese completed 10-of-14 passes for 154 yards and three touchdowns, finding Jett Solomon, Alex Swift and Josiah Barron for scores. Michael Kearns added a rushing score.
