Departing flights at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas are being delayed this morning as multiple concourses are cleared after a loud noise caused panic among travelers who thought it was gunfire, officials said.

That noise was caused by an unruly subject, who is currently in custody, according to Metro Police. The incident happened at 4:30 a.m. in Terminal 1, they said.

Some passengers created a security incident by rushing through the checkpoints during the incident, airport officials wrote in a Twitter post. Passengers from multiple concourses need to be re-screened at security checkpoints before boarding their flights, they said.

Officials are urging travelers to check the status of their flight before heading to the airport, adding that "delays are expected to continue throughout the day and cancellations are possible as we work to return operations to normal."
