Man in a wheelchair struck by car, killed in Las Vegas

A Las Vegas man in a motorized wheelchair was killed Friday afternoon when he was hit by a car while crossing the street near Las Vegas Boulevard and Agate Avenue, according to Metro Police.

The 69-year-old victim was attempting to cross Las Vegas Boulevard on “an unmarked implied crosswalk” about 4:45 p.m., when he was struck by an SUV, police said.

The pedestrian was ejected from his motorized wheelchair and onto the roadway. He was transported to University Medical Center in critical condition, where he was eventually pronounced dead.

The driver of the SUV, a 39-year-old man from Las Vegas, was uninjured. Impairment was not a factor in the crash, police said.

The collision remains under investigation, police said.
