Four killed after pickup crashes on US 95 near Tonopah

Four people died after a pickup truck they were in crossed over into oncoming traffic on the highway in Esmeralda County, struck another vehicle head-on and ran off the road before catching fire near Tonopah on Saturday morning, according to Nevada State Police.

Las Vegas resident Mariella Hardin, 53, Genelle Guillmo Ramerine, 38, and two minor females were traveling in a white truck, northbound on U.S. Route 95 about a mile south of Tonopah at approximately 5:50 a.m. Saturday, when they “for unknown reasons” crossed into the southbound lane and entered the path of a silver pickup truck, police said.

The silver truck veered right in an attempt to avoid a collision before its front was struck by the front of the white truck. Both vehicles ran off the road and came to rest on the paved shoulder, at which point the white truck caught fire.

All four occupants of the white truck were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The five occupants of the silver truck suffered varying degrees of injury and were transported for medical treatment.

The crash remains under investigation, police said.
