The owner of the M Resort announced plans today to add a $206 million, 384-room tower, nearly doubling the Henderson casino’s hotel capacity.

“The next step is continuing to design the tower,” said Hussain Mahrous, the resort’s general manager. “We have our preliminary designs, but when it comes to building a $200 million structure, there’s lots of ins and outs. We’re hoping to get right into that, then move into the approval phase.”

The expansion will need municipal approval, but that is not expected to be an issue, Mahrous said.

“Our partners at the city have been great to work with,” Mahrous said. He said Mayor Debra March has been “a great advocate for us. We love working with the city of Henderson.”

The expansion, which will bring the number of hotel rooms to 774, will also include about 15,000 square feet of new meeting space, Mahrous said. It is the latest big project announced for west Henderson, which has seen rapid growth in the past several years.

Nearby, the Raiders last year opened a 320,000-square-foot training facility and team headquarters, the Intermountain Healthcare Performance Center.

Amazon, Google and California-based tool manufacturer Haas Automation have either completed or are developing major facilities.

That’s not to mention other housing and commercial developments that continue to pop up or expand within a 15-minute drive of the M Resort.

In a statement, Jay Snowden, CEO of M Resort owner Penn Entertainment, said the company plans to help the casino build on “the strong demand in the Henderson locals” gaming and entertainment market.

Snowden said the new hotel tower will provide “additional capacity for the group business that is drawn to our market-leading resort and amenities, including our highly successful partnership with the Las Vegas Raiders.”

M Resort is home to a Raiders-themed bar and grill. The team’s players also stay at the resort before home games at Allegiant Stadium.

Scott Muelrath, president and CEO of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce, said the expansion “solidifies the M as a premier resort property in the Las Vegas Valley.”

The new tower in Henderson is among a number of projects Penn announced Monday, including expansions at properties in Ohio and Illinois.

The company, which operates 43 gaming properties in 20 states, plans to put about $850 million into those projects.

Mahrous said there is no start date set for construction on the new hotel tower, which will likely create about 200 new jobs.

“More and more businesses and more and more people are coming to the west Henderson market,” Mahrous said. “That just shows us that the area can support a big project like what we’re doing. This is going to mean a lot to our property.”
