19-month-old in critical condition after pickup hits wall in Sunrise Manor

A young child was in critical condition after being injured in a single-vehicle crash Saturday, in which the driver allegedly fled before police arrived in Sunrise Manor, according to a Metro Police news release.

According to the police investigation, a 2004 Nissan Titan pickup was carrying the 28-year-old driver and two girls, one 9 years old and the other 19 months old. The vehicle was traveling north on Spanish Drive, north of Spanish View Lane when it drifted left of center. The Titan crossed the southbound lane onto the sidewalk before hitting a block wall.

The driver then removed the two girls from the passenger area and brought them to a secondary location, leaving the truck behind. The driver then fled the scene, police stated.

Medical personnel responded to the secondary location and transported both girls to UMC Trauma. The 19-month-old was determined to have critical injuries, and the other minor injuries.
