A Tesla electric vehicle makes its way from the Las Vegas Convention Center towards Resorts World through the Vegas Loop Monday, July 11, 2022.

The Vegas Loop underground transportation system connected to the Las Vegas Convention Center hit a milestone on Tuesday: It passed the 1 million passenger mark, officials said.

The 1 millionth rider was commuting to participate in the opening day of the CON-EXPO, which is billed as North America’s largest construction industry trade show.

The $533.5 million tunnel system with three passenger stations at the convention center debuted in the spring of 2021, taking conventiongoers through the tunnels — each run for just under 1 mile — in electric Tesla vehicles, with speeds reaching up to 40 mph.

The system is designed to transport up to 4,400 people per hour in more than 60 cars under the 200-acre campus. It also has a station nearby Resorts World.

The tunnels were built by Elon Musk’s Boring Company. Plans call for the system to include more than 30 miles of tunnels and 55 stops, reaching various parts of the resort corridor.
