Metallica bringing Life Burns Faster eight-show residency to Sphere

Metallica, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame metal band, will take over Sphere Las Vegas this fall, bringing its No Repeat Weekend stadium format to an eight-show Life Burns Faster residency in October.

The residency extends the No Repeat Weekend format from the band’s ongoing M72 World Tour, promising no duplicate songs between Thursday and Saturday performances.

The run, announced today, is scheduled for Oct. 1 and 3, 15 and 17, 22 and 24, and 29 and 31.

Life Burns Faster marks Metallica as one of the first major metal acts to build a full-scale production for the venue. Since opening in 2023, Sphere has become a marquee stop for big-budget residencies. The production will utilize Sphere’s internal wraparound LED screen, advanced sound system and 4D effects — including in-seat sensory effects and wind — to immerse fans in the performance.

The band said the run would feature staples and deep cuts from its catalog, redesigned specifically for the immersive setup. These shows follow the M72 stadium dates, which utilized a 360-degree stage and shifting setlists.

Drummer and co-founder Lars Ulrich said the idea of playing Sphere took hold during U2’s opening run at the venue in 2023. “About 12 seconds into the opening night of Sphere with U2 back in ‘23, I thought, ‘We have to do this, it’s completely uncharted territory,’” Ulrich said in a statement. He added that the residency would allow the band to rethink how it connects with fans.

Metallica launched its M72 World Tour in spring 2023 with two-night, in-the-round stadium stands, and it has drawn millions of fans globally. The tour supports the 2023 album “72 Seasons.”

Formed in 1981 by vocalist-guitarist James Hetfield and Ulrich, and joined by guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo, Metallica has sold nearly 125 million albums worldwide. Its catalog includes landmark releases such as “Kill ’Em All,” “Ride the Lightning,” “Master of Puppets,” “…And Justice for All,” “Metallica,” “Load,” “ReLoad,” “St. Anger,” “Death Magnetic,” “Hardwired…To Self-Destruct” and “72 Seasons.”

The band has earned nine Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.

Metallica also operates the All Within My Hands Foundation, which has raised over $29 million to support career education, food banks and disaster relief.
