Drug testing and NASCAR

NASCAR’S drug testing policy was the major headline out of the sport last week. The image of drivers holding their specimen cups kept rattling around in my head even though I knew a cartoon like that had as much of a chance of getting published as I do of winning the Sprint Cup.

But then Danica Patrick won her first IndyCar race and I had to immediately switch gears. This week’s StockcarToon looks at the possibility of Danica coming to NASCAR. Above is one of the sketches I drew on the drug testing issue.

In other recent news, the sponsor of the 43 car, General Mills, is leaving Petty Enterprises to become the sponsor of a new, fourth team at Richard Childress Racing. If the driver of the 43 car, Bobby Labonte, has the opportunity to move from Petty to Childress, he should go. Jeff Burton, who currently leads the points standings, has seen his career revived by moving to Childress Racing. Hopefully the same could happen for Labonte.
