Tony Stewart should stay put

There’s about as much of a chance that Tony Stewart will move to Haas CNC Racing as there is that John McCain will give up the nomination to run for a dogcatcher position in Phoenix. Tony admitted he’s talked to Haas CNC and that he’s been approached by other teams, but I don’t believe that he will leave Joe Gibbs Racing.

And why should he? Tony is all about winning and he can be confident that he will continue to win races and compete for championships with Gibbs Racing. If Tony has his heart set on being an owner/driver then he should try to work out a deal for part-ownership of a team with Gibbs. This type of arrangement seems to work for Jeff Gordon over at Hendrick Motorsports. (A suggestion for Tony: Ask for a piece of Kyle Busch’s team).

If Tony wants to go with a more involved ownership he needs to remember that many of the owner/driver combos in the history of NASCAR haven’t always worked out too well. If you think Tony needs anger management now, wait until he has to deal with the pressures of being an owner and a driver at the Cup level.

It could be that this is all just a negotiating ploy by Tony to get what he thinks he deserves from Gibbs. If it is, then so be it. Tony is obviously big enough to command more and he’s probably wondering what the top end of the pay scale is for himself now that Dale Jr. is getting a bigger payday at Hendrick Motorsports.

  1. I disagree, as a huge Stewart fan I would love to see him give it a shot. He already own many small tracks and being his own boss would just add to his legend if he could pull it off. Petty failed, Gordon hasn't been anything he was when he was Evernham, and other greats have failed as well. Would be awesome for Stewart to prove he could do it. Ever hear of the age old question, "Why did you climb the mountain"? Answer, "Because it was there'.

  2. You make a good point, but you also make my point with your statements about Petty and Gordon. How many balls could Tony juggle before it affected his performance?

  3. Smoke at Haas CNC, 'gag me with a spoon!' Why on earth would he go to that pathetic team? Maybe he could buy the whole damn thing. Hendricks motors aside, I see no reason for the Big T to lower himself to that level of futility. If it ain't just a bargaining maneuver, then maybe he's climbed one too many fences!

  4. When this is all said and done we will see Tony in a new, more lucrative contract with Joe Gibbs.

  5. Hey vegasj, I think Smoke is alittle to "big boned" to be climbing ANY mountain, besides I doubt he even owns a pair of climbing boots.
