Drink up a deal with a free margarita at lunch at the South Point

Most casinos save their best specials for the late-night hours.

The South Point is aiming at the daytime crowd with the lunch special at Baja Miguel's, a solid south-of-the-border (or at least south-of-the-215) deal.

One story up from the casino floor on a mezzanine level, Baja Miguel’s is a nice little hideaway from the action, tucked away with a bar, beside Primarily Prime Rib (wonder what they have there?).

At $8.95, the lunch special is pushing the limits of Coin Bucket territory. But it’s all about variety on this deal, which we’ll get to in a second.

First, the basics: You get a choice of two entrees out of a list that includes: enchilada (beef, chicken or cheese), flautas (chicken or beef), taco (chicken, ground or shredded beef) or a chili relleno, along with rice and refried or charro beans. We tried a little of everything. The food was solid. They didn’t skimp on anything. The overstuffed tacos were packed with meat. The plates were piled high with food.

The fare wasn’t anything too exotic, and, while you can do better than that price at your local taco shop, here’s where everything ramps up.

The special includes a cup of Fideo soup, a Mexican noodle soup with a little tomato flavor. And the kicker: A free frozen margarita.

Again, this is a lunch special (available 11-3, every day), so if you enjoy hitting the sauce on your lunch break, or living it up on the weekend, it’s a good deal. If you fall into the “safety first” category at your workplace, then you can substitute a soda or tea as your beverage of choice.

There’s an extra little bonus at Baja Miguel’s, also. The complimentary chips and salsa array on the table features bean dip and guacamole, usually an extra charge at most restaurants.

So for nine bucks, to get two entrée items, soup, bean dip, guacamole and a margarita, it’s a pretty good deal at a nice sit-down place with a friendly waitstaff.
