Caucus turnout exceeds 100,000 (UPDATED)

Sen. Harry Reid was largely derided when he suggested that the Democratic caucuses in Nevada — a state of apathetic voters — would pull in 100,000 voters.

Well, he was off a little.

This big announcement from the Nevada Democratic Party:

With 84 percent of the precincts reporting we are seeing record turnout with more than 107,000 caucus attendees.

Update: 2:15 p.m.

The estimate now is “more than 114,000.”

  1. Way to go Harry. I guess you really do know what is going on in your own state. Maybe the soothsayers will crawl back into their hole.

  2. Is that 107,000 total attendees to both the Republican and Democratic caucuses or just the Democratic one?

Will the final actual voter count tallies be released?

  3. THEY USE SCARE TACTICS IN IOWA AGAINST STUDENTS...

THEY USE RACE CARD AGAINST BLACKS IN SOUTH CAROLINA...

THEY USE SMEAR TACTICS IN NEW HAMPSHIRE ABOUT DRUGS AND ABORTION...

THEY USE LAWSUITS IN NEVADA AGAINST HISPANICS...

THEY WILL DO ANYTHING FOR POWER!!!!WELCOME TO THE CLINTONS WORLD!!!

HILLARY SUPPORTED GOLDWATER WHO VOTED NO TO THE CIVIL RIGHTS ACT.

CIVIL RIGHTS ARE AS IMPORTANT FOR BLACKS AS THEY ARE FOR HISPANICS AND ANY OTHER MINORITY.

  4. I am a Libertarian voter who changed registration to the Democratic party, to enable me to caucus for a Democratic candidate.

I attended the local precinct (1300) caucus at Durango High School and can report that not even the 'appearance of democracy' was in effect. It was virtually chaos from beginning to end.

As a 'democrat for the day,' I have an unbiased view of the party, and can tell you that they should be collectively embarrassed. Disorganization was the word for the day. Personally, I lay that at the feet of the Nevada State Democratic Party. Let me summarize.

    * About a half dozen precincts were assembled at various locations within the school complex. There was no map or signage to indicate where each precinct was to gather.

    * No neutral party representatives were present to facilitate the proceedings, including checking of voter registration cards or new voter registration forms.

    * Many people showed up, not knowing their precincts. There was no mechanism or procedure to help people figure out where to go. A number of people surely wound up leaving or not casting their preference, as a result.

    * They ran out of ballots, rendering the use of ballots, impossible. So the precincts were reduced to counting heads. No valid paper trail exists, as a result.

Regardless of candidate vs. candidate sniping (I'm sure there will be plenty of that), the bottom line is that the process was strictly amateur hour. With my eyes, there appears to be no validity to the process that I witnessed today.

    Nevada needs a primary. Period.

  5. ANOTHER VICTORY FOR HILLARY AND THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! NEVADANS REFUSED TO BE BULLIED INTO VOTING FOR SOMEONE ELSE'S CHOICE AND VOTED THE BEST CHOICE! HILLARY! HILLARY! HILLARY! YES SHE CAN!!

  6. Congrats, Hillary

On running the ugliest most divisive campaign in history.

We can do better than Hillary and her racialy divisive supporters. Barack has a real message for the country, and we dont have to wait around for the Democrats to realize it.

CONVINCE OBAMA TO RUN AS AN INDEPENDENT IF HILLARY WINS THE NOMINATION. HE HAS THE MONEY, THE ORGANIZATION AND THE SUPPORT. HOW WOULD HILLARY STAND UP AGAINST REPUBLICANS IF BARRACK RUNS AS AN INDEPENDENT.

SEND A STRONG MESSAGE TO THE CLINTONS THAT LIES, RACIAL DIVIDING, VOTER SUPPRESSION, AND UGLY SMEAR POLITICS WILL HAVE A CONSEQUENCE.

WRITE TO HIS ELECTION NOW AND ENCOURAGE THEM, SO HE KNOWS THAT HIS SUPPORTERS WOULD SUPPORT HIM AS AN INDEPENDENT.

IF YOU WOULD SUPPORT OBAMA'S RUN FOR PRESIDENT AS AN INDEPENDENT IN THE GENERAL ELECTION, WRITE TO THEM NOW AND TELL THEM!!!!! JUST SEND AN EMAIL http://www.barackobama.com/
