World Extreme Cagefighting bantamweight champion Miguel Torres was pushed the distance Sunday night by late fill-in Takeya Mizugaki at WEC 40 in Chicago.
While Torres went to the fifth round for the first time in his career against the Japanese slugger, in the end the hometown hero was able to keep his long win streak intact with a unanimous decision victory (49-46, 49-46, 48-47).
"(Mizugaki) came out and he banged," Torres said. "He stood in there the whole time. I have a lot of respect for him. No one's ever taken me that far in my career yet.
