Lake Mead ‘shrinking’

The New Yorker ran a photo titled “The Shrinking of Lake Mead” showing the lake’s declining water level and “bathtub ring” on its Web site today as “An Earth Day Photo.”

“The water volume of the lake is down by more than half since 2000. The Southern Nevada Water Authority estimates that it will be significantly lower by July. The main reasons for this are declining snowmelt and increased water use for irrigated agriculture,” The New Yorker reported.
