Ex-Rebel golfer Hoffman fades in Louisiana (UPDATED)

Charley Hoffman finished Friday tied for second after firing a 66 in the Zurich Classic in Avondale, La.

Hoffman and Troy Matteson, at 9-under, trailed leader Jerry Kelly by one shot. Hoffman, who earned $900,000 by winning the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic in 2007, has made $5 million in his career. The 32-year-old native of San Diego majored in communications at UNLV and left in 2000.

Hoffman, at 3-under for the tournament after playing 16 holes, was 10 shots behind leader Jerry Kelly, who had just finished No. 1. Hoffman's 77 on Saturday tossed him out of contention.
