Las Vegas doctor is top beneficiary of pharmaceutical company money

Las Vegas endocrinologist Firhaad Ismail made $303,558 from pharmaceutical companies since 2009, according to an investigation led by the nonprofit investigative journalism organization ProPublica.

That makes him the top beneficiary of pharmaceutical company dollars in the United States, according to ProPublica's analysis.

ProPublica compiled public disclosures by pharmaceutical companies to create a database on payments to doctors — which critics say creates conflicts of interests that could be bad for patient care. The organization's database is searchable by physician.

Ismail is board certified in Internal Medicine; Endocrinology and Metabolism, according to the ProPublica report. He was not able to be reached for comment in the ProPublica story.
