Findlay in line to be No. 1 after Mater Dei loses

With Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei High’s defeat Saturday night, Findlay College Prep is in line to become the nation’s top prep basketball team Tuesday.

Mater Dei lost to Riverside (Calif.) Martin Luther King, 71-56, in the CIF-Southern Section I-AA title game at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

The loss dropped the Monarchs, the No. 1 team all season in the USA Today national Super 25 poll, to 30-1.

Findlay (30-0) finished its regular season eight days ago with a 107-57 thumping of Impact Basketball Academy.

The Pilots have been ranked second, behind Mater Dei, most of the season by USA Today. The national paper’s new rankings come out Tuesday and most likely Findlay will be the new No. 1 squad.

The Pilots play in the National High School Invitational, April 3-5, in North Bethesda, Md.
