High School Football Picks: Week 9

Shadow Ridge Defeats Coronado, 28-21

Wade Vandervort

Coronado quarterback Aiden Krause (10) looks to pass the ball during a game against Shadow Ridge at Shadow Ridge High School Friday, Oct. 7, 2022.

There are two weeks left in high school football’s regular season, meaning it’s now or never for schools hoping to squeeze into the playoffs.

That crunch is most apparent in the class 5A, where eight of the classification’s 10 teams reach the playoffs.

One-win Green Valley at 6 p.m. Friday hosts winless Centennial in an elimination game, as the winner would — at worst — receive a No. 4 seed from the Mountain League in the regional beginning Oct. 27.

In the Desert League, Foothill at 6 p.m. hosts Canyon Springs in another game with playoff implications.

Let’s project some winners. The column went 14-3 last week and stands at 115-21 for the season.
