State GOP uses Specter defection to attack Harry Reid and raise money

The news wasn't a few hours old when Chairwoman Sue Lowden sent out a missive kicking Arlen Specter out the door, tying him to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and trying to raise money off the news:

My fellow Nevadans:

Today, U.S. Senator Arlen Specter turned his back on the Republican Party to join Harry Reid and his Democrat colleagues Charles Schumer, Barbara Boxer, Chris Dodd and Patrick Leahy. This was not a grand move about policy or political parties. Rather, it was a move about one person’s political survival – above all else. Arlen Specter is not a moderate joining the Democrats in Washington. He is a liberal who has found his home. In fact, he may soon find himself on far left fringe of the party with Harry Reid. A $10, $20, $50 or even $100 donation will go a long way. Follow this link to contribute today!

The fact is, Senator Specter was sure to lose his primary campaign in Pennsylvania next year against a fiscally-conservative candidate. Unfortunately, however, Specter’s attempt at self preservation does give the Democrats another reliable vote to increase their power over the kinds of legislation they seek to enact … such as massive tax increases, socialized and rationed healthcare, higher-cost energy prices, and massive expansions of the size and scope of the federal government. The Nevada Republican Party needs your support to fight back. Follow this link to show your support today!

Some will argue that this is another blow to our Republican Party. I disagree. The Democrats have tried to ramp up their fundraising in recent weeks – especially following reports that the RNC is off to a strong start and a significant early lead over the DNC. Their main pitch to donors is that the Republicans in the Senate have obstructed their liberal agenda to Europeanize America. Well, now … particularly from today forward, Harry Reid and his Washington colleagues can no longer blame anyone else if their way, and the way of MoveOn, the Sierra Club, and the left fringe falters. And perhaps worse, if these DC-based special interest groups and the newly-expanded Harry Reid majority doesn’t stumble, they alone own Washington, and everything that comes from Washington.

Independent like Nevada, no more. More like, “Bankrupt and broken … like Washington.”

As the recent TEA parties clearly demonstrated, there is a strong, grassroots movement amongst ordinary taxpayers who are fed up with higher taxes funding a more expensive and unresponsive government. Nevada’s working families are tired of Washington giving bail-outs to everyone … except those making up our 10.4 percent unemployment rate. Nevadans are tired of Washington leaders not only wasting away our tax dollars, but the tax dollars of our kids and grandkids, as well.

Your contribution to the Nevada Republican Party will help us lead the national effort to fight back – starting right here at home – as we work to defeat the head of the Washington-based Democrat movement – Harry Reid. We will keep a watchful eye on the Senate Majority Leader, asking whether Nevada’s tax dollars funding Congressman John Murtha’s “airport to nowhere” is an important investment. We will watch to see if Harry Reid is working to create private sector job growth in Nevada, or just more government sector growth in Washington, DC, and federal control over our daily lives. With your financial support, we’ll determine whether Senator Reid will support a plan that socializes and rations health care like they do in Europe, or whether we’ll trust patients and doctors to make medical decisions without bureaucrats interfering. And, we’ll take a very close and critically-important look at who is benefits more from Harry Reid’s leadership, Nevada taxpayers or Washington bureaucrats our taxpayers fund.

We need your financial help today. Join our Nevada Republican Party Dollar-a-Day program so we can keep an eye on Harry Reid. Click here to join the Dollar-a-Day program today!
