Lawyer for downtown arena project: Despite what UNLV says, we kept university apprised of project

A lawyer for Texas developer Chris Milam has responded to UNLV NOW's response to Milam's proposal for three downtown arenas -- yes, we are at the response to the response stage! The email Pat Lundvall reveals below confirms what Milam said on "Face to Face" on Thursday evening, which is that he contacted downtown developer Cordish during the summer and was moving forward. The document Lundvall refers to is elsewhere on this blog.

Dear University Regents:

Published by Jon Ralston on his Las Vegas Sun blog is a series of comments from UNLV to the Executive Summary from LVNSC I circulated on Tuesday of this week. While I do not know for certain, I assume it was circulated to you. This message clarifies what appears to be an important point to the author of those comments. At many places in those comments the author claims, in essence, that representatives of UNLV had only meet with my client on one occasion when a single arena was being proposed by the Wet and Wild site, and that thereafter UNLV was unaware of any further interest my client had in UNLV, or that we had changed the location of, and expanded the scope of our sports complex project. To the contrary, the message below was transmitted to Gerry Bomotti, and Jim Livengood, and ultimately to the President of UNLV, in an effort to keep them apprised of our interest in UNLV, and the scope and new location of our project. The message below is self-explanatory.

As to the specifics of our proposal to UNLV, we were asked to wait with the submission of any proposed lease terms so that UNLV could continue to maintain its neutral approach concerning the development of an arena in Clark County.

One last point, we were never “turned down” by the Clark County Commission, as claimed in the comments.

An updated project plan is attached. It's been a couple months, so in brief, we found a more welcoming and supportive political and business environment in the City, and more space to work with as well. So we moved up the road an exit (from Sahara to Charleston).

Given the expanded scale of this effort, the project is now better placed at the confluence of the highways in any event. There is a legend to the right of the drawings. I hope you like what you see. We'll keep you posted periodically on our progress.

Just to tackle one subject (out of many) this project has nothing to do with any plans of the Cordish Co. on the existing City Hall site. The land at Symphony Park was sold to private owners. We are acquiring their rights directly from them, and developing these venues ourselves. We are not in partnership with the City. These are wholly privately owned venues on private property.

I hope this finds both of you and your families well. We look forward to speaking soon and working with you in the future. As always, if there are any questions, feel free to call me directly at 702-569-6545.
