51s fall at Colorado Springs for second straight day

The Las Vegas 51s gave up three runs in the first inning Friday night against host Colorado Springs and were defeated 5-4.

Brett Harper hit a solo home run for Las Vegas in the eighth inning to cut the 51s’ deficit to one run, but they went down in order in the ninth to drop their second consecutive game to open the season.

Infielder Joe Inglett had three hits for the second straight game, opening the contest with a single and run scored to give Las Vegas an early 1-0 lead. The 51s also led after the first inning Thursday.

But Colorado Springs scored three runs in its half of the first, including taking advantage of a throwing error by Las Vegas catcher Raul Chavez to take a lead it would not relinquish.

Jason Lane had two hits for Las Vegas, Inglett had a pair of RBIs and Buck Coats scored two runs.

The teams will continue their four-game series tomorrow and Sunday at 12:05 p.m.
