51s hit three home runs in loss to Salt Lake

Brett Harper and Russ Adams hit seventh-inning home runs Thursday night for the Las Vegas 51s in a 7-5 defeat at the Salt Lake City Bees to close an eight-game road trip to open the season.

Las Vegas (1-6) trailed 6-2 entering the seventh inning when Jason Lane singled to start the frame. Harper was next with his third home run of the year and Adams followed with a solo shot to cut the deficit to 6-5.

Salt Lake added an insurance run in its half of the seventh. The Bees were led by two hits and three runs by infielder Sean Rodriquez.

Las Vegas’ Randy Ruiz hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning for his third home run of the season.

The 51s open their home schedule at 7:05 p.m. Friday against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. They are home for eight games. They went 1-6 on the season-opening round trip with one game at Colorado Springs snowed out.
