51s close homestand with big win

Las Vegas outfielder Buck Coats had four hits Friday night and 51s scored runs in five of the first six innings to beat the Fresno Grizzlies 12-3 at Cashman Field to close an eight-game homestand.

J. P. Arencibia’s three-run double highlighted a five-run sixth inning for Las Vegas, which had a season-best 18 hits.

Howie Clark, who singled and scored in the first inning, and Aaron Matthews had three hits for Las Vegas. Clark, Coats, Randy Ruiz, Jason Lane and Angel Sanchez each scored two runs.

Jonah Bayliss (2-0) pitched 3 and 1/3 scoreless innings with five strikeouts to earn the win.

Las Vegas (5-10) opens a four-game series at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at the Sacramento River Cats, the top affiliate of the Oakland A’s.
