51s blanked in opener at Memphis

The Las Vegas 51s were limited to six hits Tuesday in being defeated 2-0 by the host Memphis Redbirds during the first game of a four-game series.

Las Vegas catcher J. P. Arencibia had a pair of doubles, but was stranded at second base both times.

Las Vegas starter Brad Mills struck out nine batters in six innings, but didn’t get any run support in falling to 0-4.

Memphis starter Evan MacLane gave up five hits in eight scoreless innings and the Redbirds scored the winning run in the fourth inning on a RBI triple from Bryan Anderson. They added another run in the fifth on a single from Nick Stavinoha.

The teams play at 9:05 a.m. Wednesday in the second game of Las Vegas’ eight-game road trip in Tennessee. Following the series with Memphis, Las Vegas plays four games at the Nashville Sounds.

It returns home May 21 to face Oklahoma City.
