Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.
Minnesota Lynx minus-14 vs. Connecticut Sun, $880 to win $800 : I hate laying double-digit points in basketball, but couldn’t resist with this WNBA game. Don’t laugh — I love handicapping the women’s game.
Minnesota is one of the favorites to capture the WNBA title, winning by 12 points Friday on the road at Washington. Connecticut is arguably the league’s worst team, losing by 21 points Friday in its home opener to New York. Connecticut will struggle all season.
Minnesota has one of the league’s most productive players in Maya Moore. She scored 34 points against Washington with just one turnover, and got to the free throw line 11 times. Lindsay Whalen will lead the league in assists at point guard, and backcourt mate Seimone Augustus had 24 points in the opener.
It’s early in the season. The oddsmakers haven’t adjusted for how bad Connecticut is.
Standings: Bern (25-17-1, $11,650), Keefer (21-25, $8,153), Brewer (18-22-3, $7,370)
