Vegas Play of the Day: Cubs at Dodgers

We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have restarted with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using on odds from the South Point.

Los Angeles Dodgers plus-110 vs. Chicago Cubs: $300 to win $340: The Chicago Cubs have lost four straight games during a road swing out West, combining to score six runs in those contests. Even though the Cubs are starting ace Jake Arrieta, who is 16-6 with a 2.22 earned run average, it’s still worth a small wager on the Dodgers. It doesn’t matter how solid Arrieta is if the Cubs can’t score.

This is believed to be the first time all season the Dodgers have been the betting underdog at home — Arrieta has been that good, whereas Los Angeles starter Alex Wood is inconsistent. Still, the Cubs are slumping, and even a strong start won’t turn those bats around. Always bet trends in baseball, and this trend says the light-hitting Cubbies won’t give Arrieta much offensive support. Can’t win if you can’t score, plain and simple.

Current Standings (as of July 1): Brewer (11-8, $10,740), Bern (6-8, $9,620), Keefer (7-14, $6,261)

Lifetime Records: 2014-15 champion Bern (89-82-1), Keefer (91-97-2), Brewer (81-95-2)
