St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams (32) celebrates as Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw, front, catch A.J. Ellis and umpire Eric Cooper watch his, three-run home run in the seventh inning of Game 4 of baseball’s NL Division Series Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, in St. Louis.

We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have re-started with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using on odds from the South Point.

New York Mets at Los Angeles Dodgers, Total Under 5.5 at minus-105: $425 to win $400

New York’s Jacob deGrom and Los Angeles’ Clayton Kershaw have been tough to hit all season. In the regular season, Kershaw posted a 2.18 earned run average and struckout 300 batters, a rarity in baseball. The Mets’ deGrom had a 2.51 earned average and struckout 205 batters in 190 innings. Expect more strikeouts than hits, and with the ball barely in play, runs will be few.

Kershaw is widely considered the best pitcher in baseball, but has struggled to impress during past appearances in the postseason. He’ll be at the top of his game today, eager to give the Dodgers an early lead in the best-of-five game series and out to erase past poor playoff outings.
