Vegas Play of the Day: Padres at Reds

We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have re-started with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using on odds from the South Point.

Cincinnati Reds minus-105 vs. San Diego Padres, $400 to win $420: The Reds have one of the worst records in baseball at 28-44, and rank 29th with a .297 on-base percentage. By no means, should they be frequently be mentioned as a good team to wager on. But the San Diego Padres have performed equally bad. And, more important, the Padres played yesterday in Baltimore.

Cincinnati starter John Lamb enters with a deceiving 4.75 earned run average. That’s because his ERA in June is a respectable 2.65 and he’s pitched into the seventh inning in his past two starts.

San Diego starter Christian Friedrich allowed six runs and 10 hits in his most recent outing. All-time against the Reds he has a 1-1 record with a 7.50 ERA, giving up 10 earned runs and three home runs in 12 innings.

Current Standings (as of July 1): Brewer (50-44-2, $10,825), Bern (35-42, $6,420), Keefer (53-64-2, $4,991)

Lifetime standings: 2014-15 Champion Bern (115-116-1), Keefer (136-147-4), Brewer (118-130-4)
