2014 Dam Short Film Festival Announces Line-up
Festival Celebrates 10th Anniversary
New Record of 171 Films
Digital Film Market
26 Film Programs, plus Special Events
Festival runs February 12-16, 2014 in Boulder City, Nevada

“Our 10th year is full of great films,” said Lee Lanier, Executive Director of The Dam Short Film Festival. Each year in February, The Dam Short Film Festival showcases short films of all genres and styles in historic downtown Boulder City.

Categories include Drama, Comedy, Sci-Fi, Horror, Documentary, Animation, Student, and Nevada Filmmaker. The short films are grouped into 26 themed programs showcasing 171 films from all over the globe.

"The last two seasons had record attendance, and for the first time the Festival is expanding its schedule to five days. We're showing more films than ever," said Festival Director John LaBonney.

Each year, local filmmakers are featured in their own distinct showcase. The Nevada Filmmakers program is Saturday, February 15th at 7:15 pm and will screen nine films from new and returning Nevada filmmakers.

In addition, the Festival is celebrating its 10th season with a look back at some of the best films from its history in three retrospective programs: 10 Years of Nevada Films runs Friday, February 14th at 6:00 pm, 10 Years of Comedy runs Saturday, February 15th at 3:30 pm and 10 Years of Animation runs on Sunday, February 16th at 1:45 pm.

The Filmmaker Panel, where visiting filmmakers discuss short filmmaking and answer questions from fans and attendees, has become a tradition at the Dam Short Film Festival. The Filmmaker Panel featuring six attending filmmakers is scheduled for Thursday, February 13th, at 11:00 am.

Lanier and LaBonney will host "Secrets of the DSFF," a special presentation on Saturday, February 15th at 10:30 am at which they'll share details on how the Festival is put together each season, as well as a discussion of the film festival circuit in general. Other events include the Filmmaker Meet-n-Greet, Press Conference, 10th Dam Mixer, Awards Gala, and Post-Awards Party.

For an eighth year, the Festival will include a Film Market, where Official Selections will be available for viewing by visiting filmmakers, industry, and members of the press. Last season the Film Market moved to a digital format for the first time, and DVD copies of films were replaced with tablet devices available for check-out.

This year's Dam Short Film Festival runs February 12-16, 2014. Information on tickets and passes as well as the full Festival schedule is available on the Festival's website at www.damshortfilm.org.

Tickets to each film program are $7 and may be purchased at the door during the event or in advance online. 5-Day Passes, which are good for all screenings and events are also available for $100.

All screenings will be held at the Boulder Theatre at 1225 Arizona Street, Boulder City, NV. Built in 1931, The 400-seat Boulder Theatre was once Boulder City's movie house and for years was the only air-conditioned building in the area. In 1999, actor/musician Desi Arnaz Jr. and his wife Amy purchased the facility and restored it to its former glory.

Other events and venues, such as the Filmmaker/Press Lounge and Film Market, will be held at the Boulder Dam Hotel at 1305 Arizona Street, Boulder City, NV. The Boulder Dam Hotel was built in 1933 to accommodate visiting government and corporate project managers supervising the construction of Hoover Dam. The hotel quickly gained a worldwide reputation as a steady flow of dignitaries and celebrities arrived. Famous guests have included Bette Davis, Will Rogers, Boris Karloff, James Cagney, Henry Fonda, and Howard Hughes. It was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The Dam Short Film Festival was created by the Dam Short Film Society, a non- profit Nevada corporation founded by Lee and Anita Lanier. The Society is composed of a Board of Directors; Lee Lanier currently serves as Executive Director and John LaBonney serves as Director.
