Cocktail of the Week: Last Word

Ingredients

1 oz Tanqueray No. Ten gin

1 oz Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur

1 oz Green Chartreuse liqueur

1 oz fresh-squeezed lime juice

1 slice of fresh lime for garnish

1 maraschino cherry for garnish

Method

Combine all of the ingredients in a cocktail shaker and fill with ice. Cover and shake thoroughly. Strain and pour into a chilled glass. Garnish with a maraschino cherry and lime slice, twisted to release the citrus juice and oils into the drink.

This Prohibition-era cocktail combines equal parts of all four ingredients, making it a perfectly balanced drink — and one that easily can be converted into bigger batches. The Last Word is grounded by the herbal flavors of the gin and Green Chartreuse, while the maraschino liqueur sweetens it, and the citrus juice adds a welcome sour kick.
