The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will hold a community meeting to discuss the city of Las Vegas' redistricting proposal at 6 p.m. Thursday at the West Las Vegas Library.
The NAACP has criticized the city's proposed new mapping of the four council wards, saying it would create a single, poverty-stricken district by joining West Las Vegas with the eastern portion of the city.
NAACP leaders have proposed an alternative plan that would keep West Las Vegas in the central-city Ward 1, which also includes wealthy areas like the Scotch 80s and Rancho Circle neighborhoods. The City Council is slated to hold a public hearing on the matter April 15.
