"I've been wondering when I'd get to sit in the good chairs," she said following her swearing-in on Tuesday.
Council members needed only a few minutes to make their choice, citing Sheen's familiarity with city issues and council operations after her years of reporting on both, the Humboldt Sun reported.
She will serve the remaining year in Bonnie Hilbish's term. Hilbish resigned over the council's inaction on her proposals for a performing arts center, an art gallery and expansion of the museum to help lure visitors to the area.
Sheen will continue as news director for the radio station, but will turn over the council reporting chores to somebody else. She is withdrawing her candidacy for election to the Humboldt County School Board.
