Obituaries for December 1, 1997

Freddie Lee Davis, 36, of North Las Vegas died Wednesday in North Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 18, 1961, in Las Vegas. A lifelong resident, he was disabled.

He is survived by his mother, Anna Lee Turner of North Las Vegas; his father, Ezra Davis Sr. of Las Vegas; four brothers, Ezra Davis Jr. and Leon Rayford, both of Las Vegas, Amos Davis of Henderson and Samuel Davis of North Las Vegas; and five sisters, Veronica Adams of San Diego, Dorothy Jean Davis and Shelly Davis, both of North Las Vegas, and Mavis Davis and Daisy Davis, both of Las Vegas.

Visitation is scheduled noon-7 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Palm Chapel, Main. Graveside services will follow in Palm Memorial Park.

JOSEPH FERRANTE

Joseph Ferrante, 86, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Nov. 9, 1911, in Pottsville, Pa. A 10-year resident, he was a print shop foreman.

He is survived by two daughters, Grace Krause and Bonnie Ferrante, both of Las Vegas; one son, Joseph Ferrante Jr. of North Haledon, N.J.; two sisters, Angela Domino of Elmwood Park, N.J., and Violet Parker of Passaic, N.J.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 8 p.m. today in Bunker Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Bunker Chapel. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens.

SALLIE JULIA GORDON

Sallie Julia Gordon, 89, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Dec. 14, 1907, in Cleveland. A 65-year resident, she was a retired liquor retailer, former owner of Mike's Liquor Store on Fremont Street and Sallie's Liquor Store on East Charleston Boulevard and president of Sisterhood Temple Beth Sholom and B'nai B'rith.

She is survived by one daughter, Roberta "Bobbie" Gordon Kane of Honolulu; one sister, Kathryn Samuels of Las Vegas; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled one half hour prior to 11 a.m. services Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St.

Mary Chris Langendorf, 52, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born June 15, 1945, in Wausau, Wis. A five-year resident, she was a public school teacher.

She is survived by her husband, Barry; two sons, J.B. Langendorf and Jerrod Langendorf, both of Las Vegas; her parents, Harold and Glendola Mitchell of San Jose, Calif.; two sisters, Rebecca Smith of Redding, Calif., and Claudia Zichterman of San Jose; and one brother, Paul Mitchell of Scarborough, Maine.

Services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday in Lake Lutheran Church. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Hawthorne Cemetery. Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., is handling arrangements.

John Clifton Nelson, 86, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 23, 1911, in Salt Lake City. An 18-year resident, he was a businessman, a member and recipient of the Hiram Award from Kaibab Lodge 25 in Salt Lake City, a member of York Rite Bodies in Salt Lake City, Royal Order of Jesters Court 181, Elks 1468, a dual member of Zelzah Shrine Temple of Las Vegas and El Kalah Shrine Temple of Salt Lake City

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mazel P.; one daughter, Judy A. Elkins of Parker, Colo.; one son, Lynn R. Nelson of Las Vegas; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Zelzah Shrine Temple. A private burial will follow. Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd., is handling arrangements.

Kathleen "Kitty" Nichols, 76, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born Sept. 19, 1921, in Edmonton, Ky. A 27-year resident, she was a retired preschool teacher.

She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Gleeson of Las Vegas; two sisters, Grave Wheat of Oakhearst, Calif., and Estell Homercamp of Illinois; and two grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 5-7 p.m. Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Chapel, Main. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Memorial Park.

Regina Schiermbock, 83, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. She was born July 21, 1914, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A 19-year resident, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Judianne Hansen of Las Vegas; one son, Thomas Schiermbock; one sister, Eleanor Killeen of New Jersey; one brother, James Martin of Texas; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Alexis Rose Sheppard, 12 weeks, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 2, 1997, in Las Vegas.

She is survived by her mother, Paula Sheppard, her father, Marc Cummings, and two brothers, Joshua Sheppard and Jesse Sheppard, all of Las Vegas; and her grandparents, Steve and Carolyn Baker of Santa Clarita, Calif., and Sue and Gary Cummings and Albert Tinker, all of Casper, Wyo.

Services will be 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Spring Valley Baptist Church. Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., is handling arrangements.

Robert Sullivan, 74, of Henderson died Thursday in a local hospital. He was born Sept. 28, 1923, in Alhambra, Calif. A 10-year resident, he was a retired electrical engineer and a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by four daughters, Vanessa Sullivan and Victoria Hendren, both of Henderson, Carol Collins of Valencia, Calif., and Becky Sullivan of Los Angeles; two sons, Richard Sullivan of San Leandro, Calif., and Jeffrey Sullivan of Los Angeles; one brother, John Sullivan of Manassas, Va.; one sister, Patricia Barczak of Prescott, Ariz.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled one half-hour prior to 9 a.m. services Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

Daisy Walston, 49, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born Jan. 3, 1948, in Jones Town, Miss. A 15-year resident, she was a beautician.

She is survived by her husband, Lonnie; two daughters, Ayanna Walston and Nefertill Walston, both of Las Vegas; her parents, John and Earlie B. Smith, and four brothers, Ollie Smith, James Smith, Tony Smith and John Smith Jr., all of Milwaukee; eight sisters, Virginia Simmons of Boston, Bernice Spencer of Helena, Ark., Kathy Swift, Patricia Vaughn, Barbara Smith and Willie Mae Smith, all of Milwaukee, and Lizzie Smith and Gloria Potte, both of Memphis, Tenn.

Visitation is scheduled Tuesday in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church.
