Ex-Gov. Russell’s wife dies at 80

CARSON CITY -- Marjorie Russell, widow of Gov. Charles Russell, died today after a lengthy illness. She was 80.

Russell showed a longtime commitment to the Nevada State Museum and served for more than 20 years as a member of the board of trustees. The textile and research center was dedicated in her name in 1993.

She gave the museum her prize collection of pioneer Nevada women's dresses.

She married Russell in 1939. He served in the Assembly and was governor for eight years, his term ending in January 1959. He died in 1989.

Survivors include sons Todd and Clark, both of Carson City, David of Reno, Craig of Dallas and a daughter, Virginia Sakal of Ithaca, N.Y., plus numerous grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
