A local ice climber is recovering today from a broken right leg suffered during a fall at a remote area of Mount Charleston.
Chris Coffman, 22, of Las Vegas, had been climbing in the Echo Falls area, near Cathedral Rock, police said. A companion used a cellular telephone to both call for help and then guide approaching rescue teams equipped with cellular phones.
Rescuers from Metro Police as well as the Mt. Charleston volunteer fire department brought Coffman down the mountain, authorities said. He was then transported to University Medical Center for treatment.
