Boy charged in ‘96 killing

A 17-year-old boy wanted in the murder of a 15-year-old girl last summer is in the Clark County Detention Center today.

Metro Police homicide investigators escorted Manuel Arias to Las Vegas this week from Los Angeles, where he had been arrested Jan. 23 on curfew violations.

Arias was also held for outstanding warrants issued July 9 charging him with murder with use of a deadly weapon, attempted murder with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit murder.

Homicide Sgt. Kevin Manning said a governor's warrant was obtained Feb. 25 when Arias refused to waive extradition.

Homicide investigators had been looking for Arias after his name surfaced as a possible suspect during an investigation into the July 1 shooting death of Dania Rickermann inside a vacant apartment at 1932 CindySue St., near Vegas and Rancho drives.

Police were led to Rickermann's body by the girl's 14-year-old friend, who was stabbed during the same early-morning incident and ran to a nearby address to call police for help, authorities said. Police have withheld the name of the friend, who survived the attack, as a safety measure.

Arias and Rickermann were acquaintances, and the motive for the murder appears to have been over money, Manning said.
