Abuse charge increased to murder after child dies

Metro Police have re-booked a Las Vegas woman for murder by child abuse after a hospitalized 14-month-old girl died from a severe skull fracture.

A felony child abuse charge against Alicia Wegner, 33, was increased to murder after homicide investigators received word from University Medical Center on Wednesday that Kierra Harrison had died at 12:50 p.m.

The girl was being cared for in Wegner's licensed home child care business at 4:03 p.m. Monday when the woman called police to say the infant had hit her head and was unresponsive.

Police initially arrested Wegner at her home at 6960 Mountain Moss Drive, near Twain Avenue and Tenaya Way, after attending physicians on Tuesday determined that the baby's injuries were not accidental.

Wegner's court date is pending.
