Letter: Public comment inappropriate during criminal investigations

For the record, the attorney general's office has primary jurisdiction over criminal cases involving state employees. In this matter, the focus of this office has been on law enforcement in the review of this extremely complicated, multi-faceted case, involving highly complex computer technology and sophisticated gaming cheating techniques.

During the course of our comprehensive investigation, former Gaming Control Board employee Ron Harris pled guilty to four counts of cheating at gaming. Mr. Harris had made serious allegations about other individuals including some past and current Gaming Control Board employees. Our office thoroughly investigated all of these allegations and found them to be unsubstantiated.

The matter is not concluded. There are two remaining accomplices of Harris who are set for trial in April.

For the record, it is the strict policy of the attorney general's office not to disclose investigative material which might impact a pending matter. All investigative material in the custody of this office, wherever it is located, is secured under lock and key. This office is not the source of news stories in this regard.
