Letter: Residents getting short end from casino power brokers

I am. of course, referring to the melange of guerrillas (gorilla?) of the political as well as gaming-industry species, who for gain of clout, financial profit, publicity or all three combined, have been indiscriminately trampling our citizenry as well as the few blades of green grass left in our valley.

The so-called investments approved by the downtown city and county club are known to all, and too many to list. All, costly "bombs."

The gaming licensing bodies (buddies?) granting approval for the proliferation of casinos and/or additions of gaming equipment in residential-area bars and convenience stores -- like coupons for a free lunch at the Stratosphere -- is thoughtless and short of criminal.

Then, we have the real power brokers, headed by what some people call the next star of the sequel to the "Omen" film series, who have, by intimidation as well as politically generated connections, managed to obtain various convenient variances, blocked a no-cost maglev transportation system a few years back, inflated cost of so-call family-oriented entertainment, plus other machinations in the works.

Forgive the vented venom, but I have lived here since 1953, when the "mob" ran the town, with no gangs or drugs, and they did not s---- the citizenry.

Keep up the good work.

Matt G. Gregory
