Teen angry at middle-schooler fires at school bus

No one was injured in the 7:20 a.m. incident.

Clark County School District police spokesman Ken Young said children were getting on the bus, which was headed for a local middle school, in north Las Vegas when the 17-year-old walked over to the bus with some other students.

Young said the teen-ager and a middle school student on the bus had a verbal exchange, but police still aren't clear what the two were arguing about.

"Some say it's over a young lady. Some say it's over other things," he said.

As the bus departed, the teen, who is not a student, fired three rounds at the rear of the bus, hitting a taillight. The bus driver continued driving and alerted authorities.

About 30 children were on the bus at the time, Young said.

The 17-year-old, whose name was not released, was arrested and taken to Family Youth Services. He is charged with assault with a deadly weapon, damage to school property, discharging a firearm within city limits and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.

"It was very fortunate that no one was hurt. The bus driver really reacted in a proper manner. He didn't panic," Young said.

The weapon has not been recovered.
